MANGO

Mango is not a happy cat. She does not like her long ginger hair, hates her chores and thinks family rules are dumb. If only she had wings and could fly free like the birds.

When Mango discovers a special rock that belongs to a cat fairy, an amazing adventure begins. Join Mango as she learns to be happy with who she is and what she has, especially her family.

Mango is one of my real cats. All the cats in the story are my real cats. There have been 5 or 6 cats in my home at once for many years. They are great emotional support pets for the foster children that have come through my home. It always amazes me to watch a cat as they adopt a child and comfort them as needed. With so many of them, everyone always had a cat to tell their problems to.

In my work with children, my heart has gone out to those who struggle by trying to be something they are not in order to please others around them or feel better about themselves. Especially in the LGBTQ+ community and children of trauma. I wrote this story hoping to help all children of all ages recognize that being the best you that you can be is where happiness is found. And...... I think the world needs more fairy tales!

Review from Mary Lanni

Each illustration is filled with color and straight lines, whether in the cat’s cur or in the blades of grass. Mango’s eyes are especially expressive, and cat lovers will appreciate the myriad felines featured in this story. Magic and reality blend to encourage readers to recognize and embrace all they have instead of striving to be something else. Readers of all ages will value this story’s message of finding happiness within both one’s family and oneself.

5 STAR ***** Congratulations on your 5-star review!

Grandma Krazy's book is perfect for children as it contains wonderful illustrations of animals by Lauren Garcia and a simple, easy to understand story that evokes emotions and imparts valuable knowledge. The feelings and thoughts of the protagonist reflect how children think in a family setting; I know I used to get tired of doing chores and thought material things would make me happy as a child. Thankfully, I've learned to find joy in being alive and active as overthinking and "over wishing" can be depressing. Mango The Long Haired Ginger Cat spreads messages to children that will help them avoid crippling expectations and disappointments in life and encourages them to be more appreciative of the blessings they already have, especially the ones they are given without having to wish for them.

Finding out who you’re NOT is at the heart of this delightful children’s book, Mango the Long Haired Ginger Cat, written by Grandma Krazy and illustrated by LaurenGarcia. Mango didn’t like being a long-haired ginger cat because her long hair was hard to care for. She was tired of the rules and the chores she was made to do and she longed to be different – a LOT different, as it turns out! Mango’s seemingly dissatisfied life takes a drastic turn the day she finds a beautiful sparkling rock that turns into some wonderful colors. The rock comes with an added surprise that has the power to change Mango’s life... Most children, even adults, often fantasize about being something that they’re not. Mango has the opportunity of a lifetime to actually change who she is but receives a rude awakening when her family becomes frightened of her and ends up rejecting her. Like most children’s books, the author teaches children valuable life lessons like not trying to be something you’re not and being satisfied with being the best you can. Grandma Krazy also underscores the importance of family and the loving embrace and acceptance family provides. Garcia’s illustrations are simple, sweet, and filled with emotional authenticity. Each image of Mango and her family leaps off the pages as if inviting the reader to rub a belly or scratch under a chin. Garcia manages to nail the mannerisms of cats, from the way they flatten their ears to the way in which they delicately wash themselves or huddle in a group. Mango the Long Haired Ginger Cat is also a great introduction to cats and their mannerisms for children who may be a little unsure or nervous around animals. Mango the Long Haired Ginger Cat is a great book that teaches some important life lessons and is sure to be a treat for young children.

I also liked the cat fairy. We enjoyed this book- the illustrations are unique and well done, and I like the lesson it teaches. It's something that I try to teach my children every day, and it's great to reinforce it with a cute story.

Michael A. Empowering and touching without having and obvious agenda. The illustrations are darling, and how can you go wrong with a cat fairy that grants wishes?! My daughter (6 going on 7) has been reading it over and over again!

Lisa Lewis Ellis 5.0 out of 5 starsAuntie Approved and Enlightened This Adult's Heart Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2020Verified Purchase I don't want to give anything away, but I must say this book not only warmed my heart but also made me think about myself. I was looking for a book for my elementary school-aged niece. The story of self-love, self-confidence, and being the "best version" of oneself is encouraging. It will encourage a child's heart and enlighten an adult's heart. A good read, and I highly recommend it. Auntie approved!

Becky E. 5.0 out of 5 starsCute children's book with a message Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2020Verified Purchase Great little story about learning to be content with who you are. Since my 2 year old granddaughter loves cats, I thought I'd see how she likes this book. It held her attention so well she even let me read the actual story, unlike most books where she simply wants to point out the images she recognizes. It appears we have a favorite here, that will mean even more to my little one as she develops and understands the message better.
